MOGS

Anno and I were just talking, after having watched (in my case, for the fifth time today) the utterly fantastic Cantina Crawl VI, the 'show' video performed by a huge cast in the MMOG Star Wars Galaxies.

"Why can't we just call them MOGs?" she said. Good idea, said I. After all, in a while stating 'massively' will be like stating 'broadband' - i.e. irrelevant. So why wait? Why continue to stammer out muh-mogs? Multiplayer Online Games. MOGs. Lovely.

"I love it when you see the future happen in front of you," she said. I agreed.

You need the term 'massive' to distinguish titles from 'session based' games that involve short, closed matches hosted by third parties like end users and gaming ISP partners.

But you could consider a MOG a 'Massive Online Game'.

Oh you mean the persistent bit? Good point. Massive Online Game it is :)

I've been using Massively-Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, which i thought was the orthodox description... the acronym then can be pronounced quite pleasingly as MOREPIGS (at least by me)

MMORPG was indeed orthodox, but in my mouth it comes out as muh-muh-orpug. Just too Klingon for my liking.

MOG!
