Impressive Infinity MMO video

Infinity is an ambitious independent MMO project in development that's set in a huge "futuristic persistent universe." There's a small team working on it and if successful it won't be released for at least a year or two, but already there's a shiny teaser: a video showing seamless transitions from space to a planet's surface. It's really amazing.

I'll be monitoring the Infinity forums to see how the game progresses.

That's hot!

They need a good editor for their website copy. For example:

"The population is condamned to age and die out in a few decades if no solution is found."

Condamned! That's an interesting neologism.

This sounds like
Yet-Another-Space-MMO-That-Wants-To-
Capture-The-Magic-Of-The-Classic-
Game-"Starflight"-But-Will-Probably-
Miss-The-Mark-And-Involve-Lots-Of-
Boring-Asteroid-Mining.

But maybe I'm just jaded. Let's hope for the best. ;)

Agree re: editing, but in fairness I think the project leader also wrote the site text, and he's French.

It looks fantastic. I just hope due to the small independent team that we're not looking at another Atriarch (which is still alive though yay!).

The screenies are very pretty, but I stopped when I got to the bit where he says why he'll succeed where other independent MMO projects have failed:

"But in Infinity, i generate most of the content procedurally. Yes, there will still be many 3D models and textures created by artists, but the amount of work is one or two orders of magnitude lower. This also allows me to rely less on other people to complete some work."

Oy gevalt. Something tells me he's WAY misunderstood where the actual work is in creating a good MMO.

Then please don't hesitate to tell them, this is a big project and everybody is free to give ideas and advices. There's a forum for that.
