Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for ;o)
So - ABC has announced the Desperate Housewives video game. This quote made me snort red wine through my nose:
As fans of the show would expect, the game is loaded with gossip, betrayal, murder and sex - you know, all the things women like," says Mary Schuyler, the producer of the title at Buena Vista Games.
I do love a bit of betrayal with my porridge! Otherwise, it sounds like a fair stab at a spin off, with a very safe templated appeal-to-women style, i.e. Sims-y. With dialogue. And sex. Wicked.
Housewives, a dialogue-heavy mystery with an emphasis on social interaction and character customization, is geared toward female players. ... Before moving into the neighborhood with your husband and son, you customize the look of your housewife by selecting from hundreds of facial features, body types and clothing options.
Housewives also borrows a few Sims-esque features, such as the ability to customize furniture in your home, upgrade appliances and walk outside to see what the neighbors are up to.
Well.. so far, pretty true to the show, eh? And if you're thinking, "omg, Sims with a skin", it does sound like they're planning to introduce all sorts of fun stuff like stealing, gardening challenges, mini poker games to earn in-game cash... housewives rampage!
It'll be interesting to see how they market and sell this, because I'm guessing not many blokes will buy this game. Still - gardening, sex and poker? Who wouldn't like that?

"gossip, betrayal, murder and sex - you know, all the things women like"
i think i died a little inside when i read that..
i love mainstream marketing.

I think its got legs, i really do. The concept of mixing a winning formula like the Sims, but encorporating the dialogue and black humour of the show is bound to be a hit. For bringing in more women to gaming, you can't go wrong with working those licences.

Heck, if your character can develop a drinking problem and blackmail the other housewives, I'd play it.
The Sims was an (unintentionally) perverse miniature of middle class, suburban, consumer culture; this potentially could be a deliberately perverse parody of the same. Rich territory.

Sod a sims clone, i want to see this as a FPS, bopping people with rolling pins and poisoning them with your cooking.
Or maybe make it like Shadow OTC, you get a trusty frying pan and your drop top Mazerati and have to slay a different neighbour's repulation at the end of each level... to win over some dodgy plumber guy of course and have lots og babies lol
There are so many ways you could do this other than a sims clone...
Maybe it can have a subgame where you braid Snoop Doggs hair ;)

but does it have a pink box? I'm a girl gamer and I only buy games that come in pink boxes.
"the game is loaded with gossip, betrayal, murder and sex - you know, all the things women like,"
I also love it when industry bigwigs talk down to me. It makes me feel special!

Desperate Housewives videogame? As Paris Hilton would say..."That's hot." I really do think its gonna be cool. Sex, lies, and scandals woo! It sounds so cool especially since you can create your own housewive by picking phsycial characteristics. I'de buy it and play it:.) Can't wait for it's release!
