World of MySpace
World of Warcraft has launched its own MySpace page.
ZOMG!

World of Warcraft has (at time of posting) 13,776 friends. That's not bad. There's WoW themes, animated AIM icons, virtual pets, free trials... and of course the best bit is scrolling through all the people who dropped by, added WoW as a buddy, and left a comment.

Surely this ties in perfectly with your previous post (and my comment) on integrating social networking sites into MMOs. I mean, even by having a World of Warcraft myspace, the people who add WoW as a 'friend' will be able to get in touch with each other through that common interest. What's more, they'll be able to converse in a much better infrastructure than Blizzard's crappy forums.
Imagine if the next step was to create a myspace page for each server, for example. You can 'befriend' your main server and therefore exchange pics/music/whatever with everyone else that does the same. You could then have myspace pages for each guild, although I must admit I see no reason why that hasn't already happened, so maybe it has and I just don't know? Almost every guild forum I've ever seen has a sticky thread where people exchange real life photos in order to get to know each other better, so surely that kind of myspace integration would be the obvious progression?

Although this is an interesting step towards integrating mmos with other media, why did it have to be myspace? Of all the awful, melodrama ridden, ugly, spamarific, insincere... well you get the idea.
Not that i have a better suggestion.

Yeah, I'm also having a problem with it being in MySpace. I looked thru the friends and checked out many of the pages. To be honest, those ppl scare me! Is that what's really on the other side of the toons I see in WOW??? If so, I'm really terrified. ;-P
I like what Sony did for EQ with the Players Station. It's not as personal but you can get information on guilds, ranks, items looted, etc. It could be a tab more personal but I think WOW needs something more functional. But once again, you gotta give it up for Blizzard and their marketing machine.
You do know where this is going right? When Blizzard reigns supreme for too long somehow someone will declare a monopoly and unfair trade practices, then they will be declared as spawns of the ant-christ along with B. Gates. :-)
