Well that's it - trip's almost up. Wah! It's ten to six a.m. and we're off to the giant fish market before getting on the plane home. Do you smell of fish if you look at a lot of them? If so, I pity my fellow plane-riders.
Tokyo Disneysea is fantastic. There were maybe 20 gaijin in the whole park - then entire thundering herds of Japanese schoolgirls, plus assorted couples and young families. I had warm sake with lunch, and reeled happily about the park for the afternoon; curiously, Disney doesn't sell either character costumes or pins in Japan. I don't understand this: the Japanese are completely wild for cosplay, merchandise, dangly things and badges, so why doesn't Disney, of all companies, cater to this? Anyone know? Very curious.
Not sure about Disney, but I do know something about fish smells! Did you know that "back in the day", when East first met West, one of the most common complaints or observations about Japanese people was that they smelt of fish, and the Japanese in turn couldn't stand the smell of Westerners' skin because it reeked of dairy products. Something to do with our very different diets and it simply permeating our skin.
Completely random tangent, there, but never mind!

I don't know if this would be the reason, but the Disney parks in Asia aren't actually owned by Disney. An outside company owns the parks and licenses the Disney. Maybe they don't have access to the same merchandise that is sold in the U.S. and France? I'm surprised they wouldn't try to make their own, though.
